The Lutheran Highlands Seminary Ogelbeng (LHSO) has received a new Lucas Sawmill and Stihl chainsaws through the longstanding partnership between Mission EineWelt (the Mission Department of the Lutheran Church of Bavaria) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea (ELC-PNG).

Located in Ogelbeng, Western Highlands Province, Lutheran Highlands Seminary is one of the three theological institutions operated by ELC-PNG. The newly donated equipment will support the Seminary’s ongoing infrastructure rehabilitation program, which aims to address the maintenance and upgrading of key facilities, including the administration building, staff housing, and student accommodation.
The procurement and delivery of the equipment were facilitated through the ELC-PNG Project Management Office (PMO) as part of broader efforts to strengthen the Seminary’s operational capacity and long-term sustainability.
The Lucas Sawmill and accompanying Stihl chainsaws will enable the Seminary to process locally available timber for construction and maintenance works, reducing dependency on external suppliers while improving the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of infrastructure development activities. Beyond their immediate practical use, the equipment also provides opportunities for skills development, vocational training, and income-generating activities that can contribute to the Seminary’s future self-reliance.
The equipment has been successfully delivered to the Seminary and will become operational following the completion of technical training for designated operators. The Seminary administration has developed an implementation plan to ensure the safe, effective, and sustainable use of the machinery.

This investment represents an important contribution to the ongoing revitalization of Lutheran Highlands Seminary. By strengthening its infrastructure development capacity, the Seminary is better positioned to fulfil its mission of preparing pastors, evangelists, and church leaders who will serve congregations and communities throughout Papua New Guinea.
ELC-PNG expresses its sincere appreciation to Mission EineWelt for its continued support and commitment to theological education, institutional development, and the strengthening of church ministries in Papua New Guinea.
